Sure, we may talk philosophically about limiting ourselves to just one guitar, and debate endlessly about what that guitar would be, but it’s all bunk because guitarists don’t live that way. We’re all craving “just one more.” Well, Fender is set to taunt you with a new set of Strats. Made in the U.S., these models are limited to just 500 each worldwide. They’re only on sale from March to December, so start salivating…
Somebody go back in time and give Brian Wilson the AMERICAN LONGBOARD STRATOCASTER HSS. That hand-rubbed oil finish looks tailor-made for a Beach Boy, but check this out—it’s got modern appointments, too, like a laser-engraved headstock logo and a clear back cover that makes the interior electronics visible. Available October 1, 2015.
Who needs a pre-1964 Fender Strat when the ’70s rule? Let me hear a hell-yeah! Fender has brought back the look with the AMERICAN VINTAGE ‘70S HARDTAIL STRATOCASTER. Hardtail, as in no tremolo, people. (Just use neck bends while you’re playing “Sleepwalk” and try not to pop a bolt.) Available in Black or 3-Color Sunburst on March 3, 2015.
If James Bond played guitar, chances are he’d favor the AMERICAN STANDARD BLACKOUT STRATOCASTER. It’s got a Mystic Black Metallic finish, black pick guard, black control knobs, black pickup covers and an ebony fingerboard. Yowsa! Loaded with three single-coil Custom Shop Fat ’50s pickups and available April 1, 2015.
So, it’s a proven fact that less finish equals more tone, right? Maybe? Perhaps? Let the wonks debate the science while you cradle the AMERICAN STANDARD STRATOCASTER OILED ASH in your hands. It’s got a thin oil finish, plus three single-coil Custom Shop Fat ’50s pickups. Available June 2, 2015.
If you like your tone woods like your women—dense and heavy—then the AMERICAN DELUXE MAHOGANY STRATOCASTER HSS has your name written all over it, buddy. Mahogany hasn’t traditionally been a thing for Fender, as the weight can be back-breaking. Fortunately, this guitar features a slightly thinner body, N3 NoiselessTM single-coils in the neck and middle positions, and a Shawbucker in the bridge, designed by Fender pickup pro Tim Shaw. Available September 1, 2015.
